Hey guys
BUCs slalom is upon us once again and entries must be in by the 3rd of Feb. (I'm going to put our own deadline on this of the 27th of January!!)
It will be held on the 18th and 19th of February.
What is it:
For those of you who don't know, Slalom is an Olympic discipline, unlike all that crappy polo and river running malarky. You have to go through some colourful poles hanging over a river really fast making it look like you are a pro. It's all very serious and involves proper athletes, commitment and dedication.
Fortunately BUCs is nothing like the Olympics. Hungover students turn up to Tees Barrage "International" White Water Course and the majority ignore the gates and paddle as fast as they can down the middle of the river trying not to capsize.
After this they go get really drunk and pass out.
Why you should come:
Now in the past few years we've been reasonably successful taking only 6ish people down.
Overall we finished 10th last year.
St Andrews finished 3rd.
This was because they took around 20 people.... all of whom we beat minus 1.
What I'm getting at is that if we take a bus load of people down we'll have a good chance of getting in the top 5.
Basically COME TO BUCs SLALOM FOR THE CLUB.
FAQ's/Moans
"It's a long way to go and a lot of money for this slalom thing":
Entries will be paid for... probs. Fuel and accommodation may be subsidised (tbc once we get back to UUUUUNAAAAAYYY) so no monetary excuses for you.
Plus miss a couple nights out... that's saving £20 a pop.
Don't eat for a week... saving roughly £30.
Buy Lidl cider instead of crates of beer..... saving £10 a time.
Smart
"Oh but Ali I can't do slalom":
Don't then, point downstream and disregard any sort of competitive urges you may have. We get points for just crossing the start line.
"I still don't want to go "
Tough. Man up.
