Hello there, For those of you who are unaware Brookbank went into administration last month but the Perth shop has now reopened as a new company: Go Kayaking Scotland. It still has the same staff, is run by Cam and has now been operating for about a month. We have managed to get some big suppliers on board with the likes of Palm, Peak, Yak, Dagger, Wenonah and Valley all keen to get their products into our shop. We are also going to be exclusive stockists of Sweet Protection whitewater gear and helmets for Scotland. We have currently got stock of Pyranha, P&H, Venture and Feelfree kayaks as well as Venture Canoes and some clearance boats that were purchased from remaining Brookbank stock. We received our first delivery of Werner paddles recently and are working hard to get more gear in the store within the next few weeks. The new Go Kayaking Scotland external signs are currently being produced and should be up outside the shop within the next week or so. We have announced our annual free Demo Day that we run at Loch Ore Meadows each year, this will be on Saturday May 11th and aimed towards touring and sea kayaking. We will be planning on attending more events and holding more demo days around Scotland in the near future. We would be very grateful if you could pass this information around your club/centre or organisation and all contact details can be found at the bottom of this email. We look forward to seeing you in the shop or hearing from you soon -- Regards Go Kayaking Scotland Team Go Kayaking Scotland Ltd. Was just looking at the website for a new kayaking shop that's opened home , and they seem to be selling to most of their stuff below the rrp at the moment. Website doesn't look 100% done yet. But worth a look if anyone's thinking about buying anything before the alps. And as we all know its good to have your own kit www.manchester-canoes-and-kayaks.co.uk/

I've recently come into some money (I just got paid) and I'd like to buy some moar kit. Ideally, I'd like to buy a BA (the club ones really get on my tits at how uncomfortable they are) and possibly some dry trousers - but I'm not really in a hurry to get these.
SInce you wonderful people have mountains of knowledge on kayaking kit - can you help a brother out?

How much do you want to spend? Do you want to lead rivers and run safety? If so that will mean you will need one with a quick release harness. A lot of people have personal favourites.......I like the BA I have, an astral green jacket. It is nice shiney and is awesome....but it is expensive £180 ish. The palm ones look pretty nice. I would suggest going in to Brookbank and trying one or two on.

Wait till sort of October November for dry trousers and then you will get a good seasons worth out of them. Palm ones are okay, but look at the peak ones and the sandiline ones that Will has. Again they can be quite pricey, around £150-250.

They're not particularly easy to find in the UK but myself and Will tried on the Stolquist BA's in France and they are the bee's knees. Super comfy, sit how we like and loads of features etc.
Peak ones are super simple but still have all the bells and whistles. Stand up to years of abuse as well, mines 3 years old and its still almost like new. The cut isn't to everyones liking though so it's the sort of thing you need to try. Top tip, when your trying them on in a shop, have a seat in a boat so you can see how they'll be when paddling.

Northshore as well I think, and its not a million miles away (Teesside), so an option to try it on before you buy

For a BA look at a Peak UK river vest or Palm Axis. the Axis is £100ish (you'll be paying roughly that for a decent one in any case) plus it has a harness and a good sized accessible pocket for a sling and mars bar etc.
Peak river vest is also a good shout, same price roughly and same feature. Plus its peak and all the cool kids wear peak... Both arent top flight BA's but are great value for money and will do the job and will last you a few years too! But as its been said your best trying ones on before you buy in any case.
But hey if you've got stacks of cash, go nuts and get an Astral Green.
Dry trousers wise if your going for the full bib and fabric sock combo go for the Nookie ones, they're well priced (£210ish) and made of a hard wearing material and look pretty cool. Peak UK ones are well priced too (£140) and made from great material but lack the all important zip on the front you can pee out of. Id avoid palm ones, heard alot of bad press, plus they're £250, plus they're yellow...
Or get the sandiline ones i have cuz they're friggin badass, but they're not going for cheap anymore sadly.
Long story short, try before you buy!

Thanks lads. I'm going down to Englandshire next week for a holiday with the parentals. Hopefully I can persuade them to stop at HPP and I can have a shufti round the Peak shop, or if we're going east side style, then I'll look round Northshore.

The other thing is try other peoples on when you are on river trips, even if it is just pissing about on a weir. That'll give you a chance to test drive them.

Also chris, depending on what your cag is like you mite wanna think about upgrading that before you invest in Dry Trousers. If your cag hasnt got latex neck and wrist seals you mite wanna invest in one that does aka a full dry cag. This will keep you far warmer when coupled with good thermals in the cold months Theres loads of choice for cags, but cant recommend the Peak UK Delux cag enough, especially if you can pick up a cheap one from last years range. Its 3 layer fabric so its hard wearing and very water repellent and has full latex seals on neck and wrists. Plus as its peak and given that you look after it, it'll last for years! Robin hood watersports www.roho.co.uk/watersports/Paddle-Tops--Cagoules.htmlNorthshore watersports www.nswatersports.co.uk/clothing-c33#c34Are both good places to have a browse, but as always its best to try one on before hand.

Thanks Will. Yeah, I think I have a semi dry cag. Definitely upgrade that when it gets colder. Yeah, I'll definitely try some on when I go to a shop and then search on the line for the best price.

Also its worth checking ebay for cags, can get some pretty sweet deals if your lucky! I got my peak dry cagdeck off ebay for £50 and its friggin awesome! Another option if your looking for a full dry cag that'll take some abuse but isnt too expensive is the IR Arch Rival, can get one for £140. heard really good things about this cag from a few folk www.immersionresearch.eu/ukstore/#!/~/product/category=254318&id=12026427 I think Mark Mulrain mite be able to help you out with one...
