Date: 9/06/11 Paddlers: Ali M, Robbie, Bruce, Hogg, Amy, Me River level: Stonking...Most if not all the rapids were unrunnable. If the line on the right on Triple Step has some water over it to make it paddelable then the Chaorainn should be ok to run.....If triple is completely covered with now rocks visible forming a river wide stopper then the trib will be very high to unrunnable....at the get out if all rocks are covered don't bother walking up Description: We walked up and were met by quite alot of whitewater...after walking up further we came to the decision that it is definitely not runnable therefore re-treated back down after Moon and Hogg done a rock slide
Definitely worth doing when there is some but not too much water..

Date 18/05/12 Paddlers: Moon Thomas Elliot Decals' Dexter Level: " Sketchy" - Moon Right hand side of the second drop of triple step on the Etive had water pouring over, levels were fairly high but Speed and Ecstasy were still runnable. Pinball looked like a guaranteed beating and Chasm looked pretty nasty too. Description: We met at 9am to go and paddle something nice as a warm up to the Etive weekend and avoid all the faff associated with Dundee UUUUUNAAAAAYYY trips. 8 hours later and after inspecting the falls of Dochart, the Etive and heading for the Loy only to stop in morrisons for food and head back, we made it to the Allt A Chaoriann. We decided to get in above speed so we could use the bimbly bits above to warm up which was going fairly well until Dexter got into a fight with two rocks and took a swim. Not even his sexy decals could save him We arrived at speed and took a good look before running, water was pouring down and most/all of the rockslide was invisible due to the water pouring over and the spray back. Moon was first to run and got some serious airtime, being launched fairly close to the wall and taking a hit to the elbow, leading him to proclaim he wished he had bought elbow pads like he had been thinking about doing all week. Thomas ran next but was pinned in the corner after leaning too far right and being flipped on landing and took a swim due to being pinned against the wall by the lashing water coming from above. I ran last and thought I was about to pop a vein in my eye I was squeezing my bumcheeks so tight, after watching Moon and Tom struggle to stay upright on landing. Lastly we ran ecstasy, which was looking fairly intimidating with stoppers forming after the top and second drops and paddlers having little control of where they were going particularly on the rockslide coming off the top drop. I managed to make a total mess of my approach and missed the entry line completely and dropped sideways into the top stopper and swam. Tom and Moon ran it well with no wetness and shame but disaster struck ( *cue world's smallest violin*) At some point on the run, possibly on ecstasy, Moon managed to open up the previously repaired split in his boat and she was sentenced to be put down as a result Poor Fajita. We will miss you. Lessons we can learn from today: leaving early with no game plan will result in aimless driving and copious amounts of faff. West coast rivers are either awful or full on when there has been significant rainfall and this makes finding a suitable river for a mixed ability group challenging Dexter is a terrible co-pilot Swim/Totties count: Dexter: 1 Elliot: 1 Thomas:1
