Paddlers: Ali Moon Bruce Pete Jack Calum H Matt Roddy
Level: ~0.6 Sepa gauge Medium on where's the water. Just covering/level with the concrete pillars on the bridge at the get out. V good height, no scrapyness
Description A short run made longer by the club burns little excursion
Started off well. No scouting needed, just mad eddy catching skillz and some balls. Above the G5 Matt "moored" his boat, well so he thought. While inspecting it managed to break free and run the G5 on its own escaping with only a dented nose and missing sponge and lucazade. After some x-country running and swimming up stream to it's rescue, Bruce and Matt managed to save it from pinnage
Well worth the trip and will happily do it again.

16/12/12 Paddlers Will Hotchy Dr. Tom Gav Elliot M Mr. Frosty Level Just scraping into high @ 1.05 just before we got on, dropping into the high end of medium as we descended. A sexy quartet of paddlers met at the crack of dawn for a paddling adventure. After a bakery run and Tesco stop we fired west to meet up with the pony-tailed one to hit something central and sexy. The river we chose was DIE LYONZZZZZ. After some waiting for Gav faff and some missing the get out faff for leaving Gav's car we finally hit the get in which was a delightful 6 metres away from the river bank. WHY YOU NO DO THE SAME RIVER TILT? Levels were looking good with next to no scrapey bum syndrome and we ambled along through a couple of bimbles and arrived at the first horizon line. From the second last eddy above the drop it looked like a tasty grade 4 where you had to swing right to cut round an out sticking rock and cut hard left right at the mouth of the drop which seemed to feed you into a pretty munchy looking hole. Scouting was proving difficult for Gav and Hotchy from up on the rocks river right so Will and Tom headed out river left to inspect from the other side. From the vantage point they decided that it looked much nicer than we had previously thought and so they set up safety with a prime bagging spot and Gav volunteered to run first. It turned out there was an eddy hidden right behind the final rock so you could either fire hard across and catch the eddy and then have an easy time hitting the line or just blast straight into it like a mad bastard. Miss timing would probably result in some sideways/backwards running of the drop but thankfully everybody brought their Tekkers and didny get a beating. Everybody ran it well opting to first hit the eddy but Tom bringing up the rear decided to just blast it through the guts because he is a pr0. He later revealed he couldn't be arsed hitting the eddy because " it looked too much like hard work." The middle of the river consisted of some grade 3 and bimble akin to the Nesk and some portage faff when one of the many downed trees blocked the whole river. Large parts of the day were spent scouting horizon lines and clambering the banks in search of the probable portage of Macgregors Leap (Gd 5). It turned up 4/5ths of the way down a beautiful walled in gorge section of continous grade 3/4. Several drops and rapids in quick succession lead into a double drop where the first drop pushed you out to the left where you would want to be dead centre for the massacare that followed. the second drop was bang on where the river narrowed significantly with a nasty looking hole beside a grim looking undercut/ possible syphon. If you didn't blast straight through the hole you could be in for the worst beating of your life and if you ran left on the top drop ( which was very likely) you would be pretty much guaranteed to get tanked. Grudgingly we had to walk past the whole section and put in at the end of the gorge. The final rapid was a tasty metre drop after the river had widened and we thought it could be taken more or less anywhere . . . how wrong we were. Will ran first opting for a central-ish line and got swept across by the force of the RHS water being pushed to the left by the wall after the drop on river right. Some hard paddle strokes and good edging and he escaped being munched in the falls. Seeing this I opted to come hard right and have more time to paddle out which worked well. Tom and Gav followed suit and Hotchy decided to run a similar line to Wills. Carnage ensued. Hotchy was swept back towards the falls and caught his edge and was flipped under. A beating of biblical proportions followed where Hotchy was ragdolled whilst trying valiantly to roll. Even after pulling his deck he didn't resurface and there was mad scrambling on the banks from team safety led by Gav. At this point Hotchy was being manhandled underwater against a rock. Eventually our hero resurfaced and was bagged at the second attempt. Hotchy later said he was considering taking his BA off such was the severity of the situation, but managed to free himself from the Lyonz death grip by opting for the curl into a ball routine. In the carnage one booty was lost but GOOD NEWS EVERYONE! Callum's anti-glasses losing device he made himself had resulted in him keeping his glasses. SUCCESS!! We were almost at the end of the river so it was quick paddle down and into the bus for a quick park and play at the slalom site on a fairly pumping Tully before heading home. A sexy day with something for all. Callum collecting many carnage points and respect from everyone for getting back on the water when most people would have opted to sit out.
