Any aspiring polo players (and maybe one or ofthe more senior members ) should have a look at the rules. The more u understand the more benifical, u find the loop holes and can exploit

Competitions I was playing in over the summer have started to use the team green card more and more (the most common cause of this seemed to be arguing with the referee - GB U21 ladies got one when we were playing against them, so everyone is guilty of it). To my understanding goes like this: 1. Player commits foul - gets foul called, opposition gets ball. No cards awarded here unless it's particularly vicious. (For sake of clarity, let's call this player number 1) 2. Second player on that same team (who does not have to be the player committing the original foul) to commit the same foul gets a green card, and a team green is awarded. (This could be player number 2 who does this foul) 3. If any other player on that same team commits the same foul, they get yellow carded, regardless of whether they have committed any fouls before. (And this one is player number 3, who hasn't done any fouls beforehand, but still gets yellow card sin binned) Wildcatz at one tournament got in an argument with a ref, and ended up with 3 players on the pitch. Still won the game though Gav PS - Here is a link to the set of rules from January 2011 - www.canoepolo.org.uk/files/ICF%20Rules_Basic_Full.pdf Hefty reading there, I've not read it.

For any players (mostly for the div 3 boys) playing this weekend who aren't sure of the polo rules its worth having a quick look over the basics. When we're training we don't pay too much attention to fouls but in the competition the refs won't be as lenient. This websites quite good too - www.canoeicf.com/icf/Aboutoursport/Canoe-Polo/More-on-Canoe-Polo/Referee-education.htmlJust the Rules of Play bit - its got lots of pics & explains the fouls quite well

Seren picked up a few of the 2011-2013 rule books at BUCS for everyone to have a look at. They are kicking about somewhere in the shed :-)
